About the Fund

What is THE Rain and Rose fund?

The fund is an organization that fights poverty on the island of Puerto Rico by matching generous donors with the most effective local charitable organizations, maximizing their ability to serve their communities.

What is the challenge?

Puerto Rico is an island full of beautiful people and breathtaking views. It is also a place where poverty is abundant. A decade-long recession, crippling debt, poor resource management, and a crumbling infrastructure have increased the burdens on the underserved population.

The island was already suffering, but then Hurricane Maria dealt a devastating blow from coast to coast. The entire island lost power, and most people lost running water. Homes and businesses were severely damaged or destroyed, and lack of insurance on many of the structures compounded personal losses. Damage estimates exceed $90 billion, but there is no monetary value that can be placed on the many lives that were lost during and after the storm. The recovery process has been painfully slow, and many people remain displaced from their homes while others continue the arduous task of living without electricity.

People have been desperate for help and others have been desperate to help. The problem of matching resources with needs can be daunting. Well-intentioned donations can have a low impact at best and be fraudulently used at worst. Willing donors often need guidance to navigate charity lists, and charities are frequently constrained by limited funding.
